Cove Creek Founder, Chief Executive Officer

As a veteran of the Air Force and son of Air Force officers, Kurt has lived, traveled, and served throughout the US and globally. Kurt has had the privilege to lead two institutional asset managers as CEO and President. These experiences have shaped his approach to working with partners, investors, companies, and entrepreneurs. A similarity between the Air Force and the financial services industry is that the value of these organizations resides in the professionals that serve within it. In essence, intellectual property rides up and down the proverbial elevator every day. Therefore, Kurt’s leadership approach is based on empowering those he works with and the importance of leading by example. Kurt largely attributes his successes to those he collaborates with. Honesty, integrity, work ethic, and low ego are foundational and non-negotiable.

Kurt graduated with a BA in Economics and Business from the Virginia Military Institute. He then received his MBA in Finance from St. Mary’s University. Kurt holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

An integral part of Kurt’s personal time revolves around giving back to his community. He currently serves as Chair of the VMI Foundation Investment Committee in Lexington, VA as well as Treasurer of The Childrens’ School in Stamford, CT. As a family, Kurt’s wife, Angie, their two children and he have focused their time in support of educational, mental health, and veteran charities.

Prior to Cove Creek Partners, Kurt Polk, CFA served as President and Chief Executive Officer of two globally significant institutional asset management firms.  While living in Seattle Washington, Kurt was a Partner and eventual CEO of Rainier Investment Management, leading the firm from $3 billion in assets under management to over $20 billion, while growing the firm from a regional company to a global investor. Following that, Kurt served as President of Axiom Investors in Greenwich, CT, helping to guide the international equity firm from $8 billion to $20 billion by leading all non-investment related activities including operations, technology, sales and marketing, compliance and finance.  Kurt prides himself on the teams he’s recruited, worked alongside and helped to flourish.  His passions are talent management, growing great businesses and living up to the trust that client organizations placed with him and his firms.  Kurt’s effort with global clients and partners has allowed those organizations to meet and exceed their plan objectives, affecting millions of retirees.  Kurt is a veteran of the US Air Force.  As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cove Creek Partners, Kurt knows that great people all pulling in the same direction can achieve astounding goals.

Jeremy Todd

Cove Creek Founder, Chief Technology Officer

Jeremy grew up in the suburbs of Boston where his father encouraged him to explore computing at a young age. At MIT he studied both computer science and music, and in 2001 he cofounded iZotope, Inc, a company which makes audio processing software and hardware products. As CTO, Jeremy led a very ambitious and talented team with a strong passion for crafting products that would resonate with their customers. The path from inspiration to a finished product was one that Jeremy traveled many times with his team, and those journeys were both formative and rewarding.

In 2013 iZotope raised a private equity investment round, and Jeremy promoted his replacement and moved on to work with his wife in her neuroscience lab in Cambridge, MA. Jeremy focused on data science for his wife and her collaborators, honing analytical skills which would find a very different application in the next chapter of his career. In 2014 Jeremy began working as CTO at Veya, a data-driven retail company that seeks out worldwide arbitrage opportunities on Amazon marketplaces and then tackles massive technical and logistical challenges to exploit them. In 2020 Jeremy co-founded Dragonfly, another Amazon-oriented company this time focused on M&A, acquiring smaller Amazon sellers and operating them centrally. Dragonfly raised a Series B from L Catterton in 2022, and in 2023 Jeremy resigned to pursue his next set of challenges.

At Cove Creek Partners Jeremy focuses on the technical aspects of prospective deals and portfolio companies. It’s often possible to take technical advances from one industry and adapt them for use in other completely unrelated industries. This is especially true when applied to how businesses are analyzed, understood and operated, since business has a lot in common across industries even though state of the art technology often doesn’t.

Personally Jeremy and his family moved to the Charleston area in 2017, drawn by its intercoastal waterways and the community of people who enjoy them. Jeremy, his wife Elizabeth, and their two children spend much of their free time in or around Charleston’s water.
